What is an AI agent?
An ordinary automation follows a fixed path: if this happens, do that. An AI agent goes further — it is given a goal and works out for itself which steps are needed to reach it. It can look things up, use tools, form a judgement and choose the next action on that basis. That lets it handle tasks too variable for a conventional script.
How it differs from a chatbot or a workflow
A chatbot answers questions. A workflow runs a fixed sequence of steps. An AI agent combines the two and adds judgement: it understands the task, picks the right approach itself and works it through — reading an enquiry, looking up what it needs, drafting a reply and putting it into the right system, all in one continuous movement.
